Harbour Street in Ramsgate taped off by police after man aged in his 70s attacked and taken to London hospital

A pensioner in his 70s has been taken to a London hospital with a head injury after being attacked in a town centre.

A 34-year-old man from the local area has been arrested and remains in custody following the assault in Harbour Street, Ramsgate, last night.

A cordon was set up in the area, with forensics officers pictured at the scene.

Police say they were called to a report of an injured person in Harbour Street at 10.41pm on Friday.

A spokesman said: “Officers attended along with paramedics and a man in his 70s was treated for a head injury before being taken to a London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

“Enquiries were carried out leading to the arrest of a suspect the following day on suspicion of assault. A 34-year-old man from the local area remains in custody.”

A police patrol car and a forensic investigation van have been seen within the Harbour Street cordon, close to the Halifax bank and Betfred bookmakers near the junction with King Street.

One local trader said there were police and ambulance crews at the scene last night.
