Police are investigating reports a young girl was approached by a suspicious man in Margate.

It comes after a posting on Facebook claiming a 10-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by a 6ft man who tried to put her in a black van.

She was said to have escaped and run to a school caretaker for help.

Kent Police confirmed they are investigating an alleged incident in Westfield Road at around 8.45am on Thursday.

A statement released today said: "Officers conducted a search of the area and have spoken to the girl and members of her family. Enquiries are ongoing."
