Investigation launched after teen, 17, dies following gig at Dreamland, Margate

Police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old girl.

It is understood the teenager had been at a drum and bass festival at Dreamland in Margate when emergency services were called.

The venue was hosting an all-day event called Worried About Henry when the incident happened.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 5.58pm on Saturday, June 29 to be made aware of the death of a 17-year-old girl at the QEQM hospital in Margate.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and a report is being made for the coroner.”

It is understood a medical team from the venue conveyed her to hospital.

A Dreamland spokesman said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of a 17-year-old woman in hospital on Saturday, June 29.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman’s family and friends and we will continue to work closely with Kent Police where relevant as they investigate this tragedy further.”

People in Thanet have taken to Facebook to share their condolences after hearing the news.

One said: “I'm so very sorry to the family and friends of this young girl. Thinking of you.

“I hope any members of staff at Dreamland and A&E and the police who dealt with everything last night are OK and receiving the correct support.”

Another said: “Thinking of the family and friends of this poor girl.

“Cannot begin to imagine what they’re going through.”

One commenter said: “My thoughts are with her family and friends… so sad to hear of someone so young losing their life.”
