A home in Ramsgate has been closed by police after being associated with drug activity and anti-social behaviour.

Officers applied for the order at Canterbury Magistrates’ Court following concerns raised by residents about the flat in Abbot's Hill.

The order will last for three months and means that it is an offence for anyone to enter the property during this time.

The penalties for breaching the order include a fine and up to 51 weeks in prison.

Sergeant James Ross said: "This shows the effectiveness of neighbourhood engagement meetings.

"Residents reported an issue directly to both the police and the local council and then action was taken.

"A closure order is not taken lightly but in this case the problems reported by the community were sufficient to justify this course of action.

"The closure will prevent anyone other than the owner entering the property.

"We will continue to actively work with partners to pursue orders on other properties if they are associated with on-going incidents of anti-social behaviour or drug activity.

"Our message is simple; if you have concerns about an address where anti-social behaviour or criminal activity is happening please phone us."
