The Old Post Office restaurant and bar in Margate suddenly shuts

A popular town centre restaurant which counted celebrities among its guests has shut without warning.

The Old Post Office in Margate, which specialised in locally sourced seasonal fayre, reportedly closed its doors for business late last week.

Situated in the town’s former post office headquarters in Cecil Square, the popular spot enjoyed respectful food rating reviews over recent years.

But now, a notice has appeared on the restaurant’s door, apparently written by bailiffs, warning trespassers could be prosecuted.

Dated June 9, it reads:“We have today peaceably taken back the lease on behalf of the landlord.

“The reversion whereon is now vested in prodigious properties limited.

“Take note that the pursuant to the terms of the said lease is thereby determined absolutely.

Proceedings, civil and or criminal, will be taken against any party who has entered or attempts to enter the premises without our prior consent in writing.”

The note from 24 Hour Bailiffs adds: “Take note that pursuant to the terms of the said lease we as authorised agents of the said landlords have this day entered the premises demised by the lease and the said lease is thereby determined absolutely.”

The shock closure comes after KentOnline took on the restaurant’s mighty stack of 10 pancakes challenge.

Speaking of the chefs, our reporter said “it wass a pleasure” to meet “genuinely lovely” Chloe Dolbear and Jamie Olive.

More recently, a celebrity couple left workers “in awe” after popping up at the top-rated restaurant to enjoy a brunch date.

Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall was spotted at the eatery alongside singer-turned-actor Jordan Stephens.

Headed up by Nick Parry, The Old Post Office recently received a mix bag of reviews on Tripadvisor.

“The food was amazing and cocktails were freshly prepared. I can honestly say that we were well catered for and looked after,” one guest said.

Sadly, a completely empty restaurant barring one other diner.

“Were pleased to find somewhere in Margate to get a bite to eat on a Tuesday night at 8.30pm but unfortunately our meal was not a great experience.”

The restaurant has been contacted for comment.
