A music producer who has worked with Mary J Blige and Usher is releasing a song to raise money for the children of a nurse who died from Covid-19.
Herb Middleton has teamed up with singer Jazze to create It's Our Love, with every penny through sales and streams to go to Margate nurse Aimee O’Rourke's daughters Molly, Megan and Maddie.
The 39-year-old mum, who worked at the QEQM, died in April. She was one of the first NHS staff to die from the virus while working on the frontline during the outbreak.
Miss O'Rourke had shown symptoms two weeks before her condition deteriorated and she was taken into intensive care at the QEQM and put on a ventilator.
She had studied at Canterbury Christ Church University before joining the acute medical unit at the Margate hospital in 2017 and had been working there ever since.
Artist Jazze, after hearing of her tragic death, wanted to do something for the three girls so teamed up with Herb Middleton, who has also worked with Will Smith, the Notorious BIG and Faith Evans, to co-write the song, under the Bigger Management label.
A spokesman for the music company says the tragic loss of life in the UK and beyond has been horrific but that Miss O'Rourke's death is particularly heartbreaking.
"Imagine this, losing your loved ones, family or friend whilst they are trying to save the lives of others, it just doesn’t bear thinking about how cruel that is," he said.
"Sadly there has been a lot of deaths to NHS workers, nurses, doctors, frontline workers, all of which have been heart-wrenching. But there is this one story in amongst them all that has particular consequences that has tugged at so many heartstrings and that is the death of 39-year-old single mum Aimee O’Rourke.
"Aimee leaves behind three children - children that have not only been left without their much-loved mother but also the income that she was bringing in for the family unit.
"This story has tugged so much at the heartstrings of the artist Jazze that she has decided along with co-writer and producer Herb Middleton to donate every penny from the sales and the streams of her debut single It’s Our Love directly to Aimee’s children."
Jazze added: "We hope to raise enough money to make a difference to help them in some way."
Bigger Management says its aim is to raise as much money as possible through sales and streams.
"The message in the song seems to have really resonated with people at this time because everybody seems to need a little love right now and seems to be the ideal tribute to someone as wonderful as Aimee as her family love the track as well," the spokesman said.
