Campaigners against the government’s austerity measurers plan to protest outside the Turner Contemporary Galley in Margate on Thursday - the day Prime Minister David Cameron is rumoured to be visiting.

Social media news and blog sites have suggested Mr Cameron will be in town.

But his office at Number 10 Downing Street said this afternoon: “We cannot comment on Mr Cameron’s travel arrangement and can neither confirm nor deny his visit to Margate.”

Turner Contemporary’s David Yard said: “The gallery is shut on Thursday for a private hire. The occasion and any guest list remains private.”

But the campaigners promise to be outside the seafront building at 9am making their voices heard against cuts in benefits and public services.

On Thursday evening the first meeting of the People’s Assembly Against Austerity in Kent will take place in Broadstairs at the Queen’s Road Baptist Church at 7.30pm.

Speakers will include London MP Jeremy Corbyn, Natalie Bennett, leader of the Green Party, and Christine Shawcroft, a member of the Labour Party National Executive Committee.

The meeting has been organised by Thanet Trades Union Council, Anti-Cuts Thanet and the Green Party.
