They will race on to the Main Sands on Saturday and Sunday (October 30-31) for a turbocharged battle to decide the winner of this year’s Beach Cross UK Championship (BXUK).

It is the first time the town has been included on the calendar and follows the success of the annual Big Sky Beach Cross tournament, which this year attracted thousands of spectators.

Event organiser Tony Nash, from the Quad Racing Association, said: "Competitors are coming from every corner of the UK and across mainland Europe. They include Henri Huchin, a sand specialist who’s bringing six other riders with him from France.

"Jérôme Brichaux is hoping to be released from a contract to compete in a French event to come and defend his lead, and there’s also four-times British champion Jason Wildman, who’s in fine form and fresh from a win at Weston-super-Mare earlier this month. He’s dialled in for the sand and desperately wants the Ramsgate and BXUK title."

Riders will reach speeds of 70mph on the temporary race track, which will feature spectacular dune jumps and challenging chicanes.

The promenade and the Eastcliff will offer impressive views of the circuit.

Bars and restaurants along Harbour Parade will be open and trade stands will be selling all manner of motorsport merchandise.

The inaugural event is sponsored by Scalextric.
