Thames Coastguard was contacted for help at 12.21am today by the vessel Pontra Maris - a cable-laying barge working on the London Array wind farm.

A doctor spoke to crew members to assess the situation and give medical advice.

The rescue helicopter was then sent to winch the ill man off the ship and take him to an Ipswich hospital where Felixstowe Coastguards had prepared a landing site.
