Ramsgate suffered a surprise home defeat in Ryman League Division 1 South in going down 3-1 to lowly Burgess Hill on Saturday.

The match started brightly for Rams with Gary Mickelborough giving them the tonic of a ninth-minute lead. But Jim Ward’s (pictured) side failed to press home the early advantage and two goals from Burgess Hill defender Danny Gainsford swung the game in favour of the Sussex club.

Gainsford equalised in the 18th minute and gave his side the lead in the 28th minute. Danny Curd sealed victory for the Hillians in the 54th minute.

Ramsgate are at home to Merstham on Saturday.
