Ramsgate played over half a match with ten men but managed to battle back from a goal down to earn a point against Horsham YMCA.
Keeper Danny Twyman received his marching orders just before the break for an off-the-ball incident with YM winger Matt Geard. Manager Jim Ward (pictured) was also sent to the stands early in the second half.
Moments before Twyman’s dismissal, with 38 minutes gone, Ramsgate had gone a goal behind as Jason Dolby was adjudged to have handballed in the box. Striker Terry Dodds converted from the spot.
An early penalty appeal for Ramsgate had been turned down, much to the annoyance of the play-off chasers. Fourteen minutes had gone when Gary Mickelborough went down in the area but the referee ignored the appeals.
Despite being a man and a goal down there was still time in the first half for Ramsgate to find an equaliser.
In added time Warren Schulz picked up a long ball forward and side-footed through a crowd of bodies to put Ramsgate on level terms.
Ward’s disagreement with the assistant referee earned him a place in the stands for the final 35 minutes and he saw his side come closest to taking maximum points.
Debutant Zak Thomas beat the offside trap but shot just wide of the post while at the other end Tom Hanton beat the defence but couldn’t find a way past replacement keeper Sam Mott.
