RAMSGATE carnival is back and ready to rock and roll around the town on Sunday, July 25.
Last year the big parade was cancelled due to lack of funds and a dwindling membership but residents and visitors are now set to welcome the procession back.
Judging of floats and costumed pedestrian entries takes place from 2.30pm at Government Acre on the West Cliff, with the procession due to set off around the town from 4pm.
Ann East, carnival committee chairman, said: “The committee has worked extremely hard to make people aware that the carnival is back. The float has been refurbished and a new court chosen.
“We have received tremendous support from the other carnivals in helping us with advice on protocol. We have even had families from London booking their holidays around the date of the carnival.
"Everything is now in place and we are keeping our fingers crossed for good weather, but rain or shine the carnival is well and truly back.”
The carnival weekend includes a two-day fair at Government Acre. After the procession there will be a carnival dance for visiting courts at The Odds Social and Snooker Club.
Fundraising efforts have already been boosted by a £4,000 donation from the Ramsgate Fund, presented by mayor Cllr David Green.
