A giant bottle of bubbly that would give a drinker the mother of all hangovers is up for auction.

Dubbed Britain’s biggest ever bottle of English sparkling wine, the tipple produced by award winning, Kent-based winery Chapel Down is to go under the hammer at Christie's in September.

Weighing 26kg, it is the equivalent of 10 magnums, or 120 glasses, and contains around 60 million bubbles - one for every person in the UK.

It was originally made to celebrate the millionth visitor to Margate's Turner Contemporary.

The 15-litre Nebuchadnezzar of Chapel Down’s trophy-winning Blanc de Blancs 2007 sparkling wine is to be auctioned to raise funds for Turner Contemporary's Catalyst Endowment campaign in Canterbury.

It has been signed by four leading contemporary British artists and will be sold at Christie’s ‘Out of the Ordinary’ auction on September 3.

Each artist - Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Antony Gormley and Edmund de Waal - has accompanied their signature with a sketch.

It is expected to fetch between £10,000 and £15,000.
