As Margate’s culture scene continues to flourish, a brand new film and visual arts festival kicks off today.
The five-day inaugural celebration, which runs until Sunday, will feature live performances, talks, workshops and more.
Highlights include Lost in Vagueness, which is the debut feature from director Sofia Olins, telling the untold story of Glastonbury Festival’s most anarchic sideshow attraction, Lost Vagueness.
It will be at the Tom Thumb Theatre at 8pm on Saturday.
From 11am on Saturday at the Palace cinema, a family film club will be held with a screening of a selection of cartoons and telefilms from the 1970s and 80s.
Events will also be taking place at the 101 social club and Margate arts club, the Theatre Royal and the multi-purpose site Cliffs.
On the closing night, visitors will be treated to a screening of the iconic 1989 Only Fools and Horses Jolly Boys’ Outing episode, which sees Del Boy and the lads take a trip to Margate.
Margate Film Festival is led by local film curator Kate Williamson, alongside a team of committed volunteers.
Kate said: “It has been an inspiring project and an opportunity to unearth a community of creatives and collectively begin to build the foundations of something truly special.
“Margate is rapidly changing and we are hopeful for the future of film in the south east.
“We’ll be hosting events across Margate, introducing visitors locally and from afar to our humble community of filmmakers, artists, makers and creators.
“Every event will be complemented by a live performance or introduction.”
