It was a late night launch for the RNLI after two swimmers were reported missing in Ramsgate.

The lifeboat was sent out shortly before 9pm at the Coastguard's request after a member of the public reported the pair missing off the main beach.

The crew carried out an extensive search along the shoreline with the mobile Coastguard.

However, a failing light meant the all-weather lifeboat also had to be launched, as well as the Coastguard helicopter.

The search was called off when a report came that the swimmers were safely ashore.
