Two teenagers from Ramsgate got their hands on the must-have Christmas present a couple of days early this year, thanks to Hornby Hobbies and the Thanet Extra.

Jon-Luc Young, 13, and Adam Turner, 16, were both presented with a 17-piece 1:32 scale Airfix kit of Lewis Hamilton’s title-winning McLaren Mercedes MP4-23.

They were also given a guided tour of Hornby’s Westwood factory by Airfix marketing manager Darrell Burge on Christmas Eve, after winning our fantastic December competition.

Jon-Luc and Adam correctly answered that Hamilton claimed this year’s Formula One World Championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The new McLaren Airfix kit proved so popular that the first production run sold out in the run-up to Christmas.

Hamilton fans are expected to speed to the shops when more of the pre-painted models are wheeled out this month.
