A busy road in Margate had to be closed in both directions due to an accident caused by flooding.

It happened on the A255 St Peter's Road, eastbound between College Road (Animal Hospital Double Roundabouts) and Westwood Road/Vicarage Street at around 5.50pm.

Traffic travelling to Margate Hospital was affected.

Highways officials said the road reopened and traffic had cleared by around 8pm.

The crash came as heavy showers hit parts of Kent.
