A sassy ginger cat has been waiting to be rehomed for almost 18 months due to his spiky nature.
Staff at TAG Pet Rescue in Margate have received numerous calls from people interested in taking on three-year-old Dillon, but once they find out more about the fiercely independent feline they change their minds.
Ashen Oleander, sanctuary supervisor, says he is stunning, healthy and neutered, with long apricot ginger-coloured hair, and they are desperate to find him a home for Christmas.
"Sadly Dillon’s appearance has been his undoing – we get lots of calls about him because people have fallen for his appearance but not his character," she said.
"We need to find someone who will love Dillon for who he is, not what he looks like.
"Normally we find that a good photo ‘sells’ a cat and is essential for a quick re-home, but the opposite has been true for Dillon.
"He is a sociable cat who likes to spend time with people and have a fuss but always on his terms, and he will let you know if these terms have not been met.
"He needs ‘owners’ who will respect his independence and allow him to be his own cat. He does not want to be picked up and cuddled but will sit on a lap when he decides it suits him."
Ms Oleander says no cat deserves to wait in a cattery for their new home for so long
"Especially when they are fit and healthy," she added.
"We want to help find Dillon a happy future."
