Scott Woolford is out to prove he is no gent in the ring when professional boxing comes to Kent next month.
The 27-year-old, known as The Gent, competes alongside six Kent fighters including brother Vinny at Gillingham’s Medway Park venue.
“I am a bit too nice,” admitted the Ramsgate boxer, “but not when I get going.I’m a big softy out of the ring but not when I’m in it.”
Scott is the younger brother of Vinny, but has been fighting professionally longer, and will be taking to the ring for his 19th fight on March 18.
And the brothers, who have both recently been preoccupied by the arrival of newborns in recent weeks, are as close as ever.
Welterweight Scott said: “We do everything together. We’ve obviously had our squabbles but we’re pretty close.
“He got me into boxing having previously tried out as a footballer.”
Seven years in Chelsea’s academy, was followed by a stint in Gillingham’s youth team, before opting for a move into pro boxing.
He has a fight record of 11 wins and seven defeats and last time out he claimed a points victory over Ryan Clark in Sussex.
Now in his home county he’s ready to fight anyone put in front of him.
He said: “Every fight is a learning curve at the moment and I’m ready for a shot at the British or Southern Area title if it was available.
“I’ve never ducked a fight and I’ve taken on some big ones early in my career.
“I’m not a million miles away and I’m just knuckling down now and making sure I’m fully prepared.”
Vinny is less experienced in the pro ranks, with just eight fights on his record, three of those being wins.
Tickets are on sale now from the boxers in person or at the Medway Park box office on 01634 338338.
