A suspect was due in court charged with stealing more than £2,000 worth of goods from shops.
Police in Margate were told a selection of cosmetics and other items had been put into a basket and taken from the premises without the person trying to pay.
Shop staff in the High Street called officers after reportedly noticing goods missing to the value of £1,982 on Tuesday.
The officers reviewed the shop’s CCTV and identified a possible suspect.
Further inquiries led to police making an arrest yesterday while on foot patrol in The Centre shopping area near the High Street.
Karl Brazier-Denning was charged with two counts of shoplifting.
The second charge relates to a report of £30 to £50 worth of meat being stolen from the Co-op in Broadstairs on Wednesday, November 29.
Brazier-Denning, 29, of no fixed address, was scheduled to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court today.
