Suspect charged with GBH following manhunt in Westgate-on-Sea

A suspect has been charged after a serious assault that prompted a manhunt on the coast.

On Friday, police and ambulance crews descended on Westgate-on-Sea just after 8am following reports that a man had been assaulted.

Patrol cars and ambulances were at the scene, while a police helicopter circled the area.

A property in Linden Road was taped off and a man was airlifted to a London hospital where he remains receiving treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Inquiries at the scene led to a man who is known to the victim being arrested near Sea Road later the same day.

Darren Duncombe, 49, of Westgate Bay Avenue, Westgate-on-Sea, has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He remains in custody and appeared before Margate Magistrates' Court yesterday.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on August 19, 2024.
