New Year’s Day will see the continuation of a Broadstairs tradition, with more than 100 swimmers plunging into the sea to raise funds for Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF).
The annual event is organised by Jill Connell, landlady of the town’s Neptune Hall.
She won't be taking the dip herself but will make sure there is plenty of homemade chilli and curry on hand back at the pub to warm up the shivering swimmers.
Jill said: “We started this event back in 2001 when just a handful of brave souls took part.
“But it’s grown over the years and it’s wonderful to see so many people joining in and even more watching from the beach.
"It is after all a great spectacle!
"I would say to anyone who has never done this before, come along and join in!
"There’s plenty of room and it’s a great way of raising money for a truly fantastic cause.”
The New Year’s Day dip is open to anyone.
Participants can either get sponsorship in advance or simply come along on the day and enter by making a £10 donation to CLDF.
Alison Taylor, chief cxecutive of CLDF added: “We are the only UK charity dedicated to fighting all forms of childhood liver disease which we do by providing information, emotional support, funds for research and a voice for all those affected.
"We rely entirely on voluntary donations so we’re delighted to hear that the Broadstairs New Year’s Day swim will be taking place again.
"Over the years Jill and her husband Kenny have raised over £50,000 by putting on this event.
"We are truly grateful to them for all their hard work and we wish everyone taking part in the event the very best of luck.”
Anyone wishing to take part in the Broadstairs New Years Day Dip should meet at Neptune’s Hall at 11.30 am to walk down to the beach.
