A teenager and her grandparents have suffered a tough start to the new year after being forced to evacuate their home following a kitchen fire.

Firefighters were called to the second floor blaze in St Mildred's Road in Ramsgate at about 4.20pm.

They used breathing apparatus as they tackled the flames, which were extinguished by 5.10pm.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Volunteers from the Red Cross were also at the scene to support the occupants.

No injuries were reported.
