An innocent man has been left blind and unable to feed himself after a violent and unprovoked attack in a Tesco car park.
Anthony Evans, 46, was punched to the ground and stamped on so hard that his head appeared to have been flattened.
A judge has called the "utterly motiveless" attack the "most vicious" without a weapon he has ever seen.
Canterbury Crown Court heard Mr Evans was walking across the car park of the Tesco in Manston Road, Ramgsate, at 9am when he was approached by Graham Wren, who he did not know and had never met.
Wren, 51, formerly of Vale Road, Ramsgate, punched him to the ground and repeatedly jumped on his head before walking away, leaving him for dead.
Wren then went for a medical injection before returning to the car park, where Mr Evans was lying unconscious.
Mr Evans was airlifted to a London hospital, where he was treated for life-threatening head injuries and spent time in a coma.
Doctors say he will never fully recover from the two-minute assault and needs 24-hour care.
“You carried out on him the most vicious, utterly damaging and sustained attack, which amounts to the worst attack without a weapon I have ever heard of at the Bar or as a judge..." - Judge James O’Mahony
After being arrested, Wren told police he wanted to return to kill his victim.
He told officers “I’ve done him, he deserved it” and was ranting about death and killing.
He even re-enacted the assault in his cell by repeatedly stamping on the ground.
Now, Judge James O’Mahony has ruled that Wren poses a serious danger to the public and has jailed him for 14 years.
He told him it had been a “cruel blow of fate” that Mr Evans had come across Wren.
“You carried out on him the most vicious, utterly damaging and sustained attack, which amounts to the worst attack without a weapon I have ever heard of at the Bar or as a judge," he said.
“You have taken away his whole independence and autonomy, leaving him blind and incapable of voluntary movement.”
After the attack in December 2016, Wren walked off and sexually assaulted a woman.
He admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and sexual assault.
He was also found guilty at another hearing of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
The judge ruled Wren is highly dangerous and jailed him for 14 years, and ordered that he serve another five years on licence if and when he is released.
Craig Evans, defending, said the “cold and callous” attack was caused because Wren was suffering from a social personality disorder.
