Another senior officer has resigned from Thanet District Council.

Director of operations Mark Seed resigned with effect from February 6 after a ten-year stint at the authority.

Mr Seed was responsible for the port which has been at the centre of controversy with plans for a construction base by the O’Regan Group yet to be formally submitted.

He also had responsibility for the waste and recycling service.

His decision to quit is reportedly due to poor health and comes less than a month after the council’s last resignation.

Dr Sue McGonigal was chief executive of TDC but resigned following an extended leave of absence since June 2014.

The departures follow a host of redundancies made last year and now the authority will be recruiting for both jobs.

A council spokesman said: “We can confirm that Mark Seed has resigned his position as director of operational services.

“We are now considering options for recruitment to this post.”

In March last year Mr Seed expressed concern that potential unidentified Italian investors in the debt-ridden ferry company Transeuropa had mafia links and might use it to launder money.

Thanet council were left with unpaid port fees of £3.4m from the company and were unable to recoup the money.
