A thrill-seeking trio from the Thanet Extra and kmfm will need a head for heights when they swap their desks for a clifftop challenge on Saturday (Nov 6).

Senior reporter Martin Jefferies and media sales executives Kelly Parr and Carly Nichols-Leary have signed up for the KM Charity Team’s annual abseil at Screaming Alley, Ramsgate.

They will descend 80ft from the West Cliff and hope to raise hundreds of pounds for the newspaper and radio station’s charity of the year, the Thanet Disabled Riding Centre, based in Callis Court Road, Broadstairs.

Other daredevils are raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust, Macmillan Cancer Support, Pilgrims Hospices, British Heart Foundation, the Kent Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, Help for Heroes, Stepahead Support, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Wildwood Trust, Remodelling Romania, Ramsgate Carnival Committee and Beach Within Reach.

Martin said: "I’m utterly terrified about the thought of going over the edge but determined to raise lots of money for the Thanet Disabled Riding Centre. Nora Setterfield and her team of volunteers make such an amazing difference to the lives of so many children, so it’s great to be able to give something back to a really worthwhile cause."

Carly added: "I’m scared, nervous and excited, all at the same time! But we’re raising money for a brilliant charity, so it’ll definitely be worth it."
