A man stole cash and jewellery during a fake police raid on a house in Margate.
The thief barged into a room at the home in Drapers Avenue and shouted at a startled resident that he was a police officer.
He then carried out a search, refusing to show any ID, before leaving the property.
The victim noticed other rooms had been searched and that jewellery and money to the value of £300 had been taken.
Officers investigating the burglary at 1pm on July 25 have released an e-fit of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.
Investigating officer detective sergeant Neil Martin said: “I would like to take this opportunity to remind residents that while most people who call at our homes are genuine, unfortunately there are some who lie about their identity in order to trick their way inside in order to steal valuables and money.
"Please be wary about allowing strangers into your property when there is any doubt as to who they are.
"Remember that if Kent Police officers do visit, they will often be in uniform, will always carry identification and will be more than happy for people to call 101 to check they are who they claim to be.
"Remember also that people from water, gas and electricity companies also rarely visit without appointments. Do not let anyone in who does not have an appointment or genuine, verified ID.”
Anyone who recognises the man in the image is urged to call the appeal line on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/043439/18.
