Margate returned from Surrey empty handed on Saturday after going down 2-1 at Tooting & Mitcham United.
An own goal on the stroke of half time made life difficult for Iain O'Connell's men. Paul Vines was the unfortunate man who found the ball somehow deflecting off him from a misplaced clearance and past a despairing Jamie Turner.
Liam Huggins and Grant Cooper had earlier missed two good chances to put Gate ahead, Cooper hitting the post with a powerful header.
Gate were rewarded for their persistence after the break with an equaliser on 55 minutes. Jay Saunders (pictured) got his name on the scoresheet, flicking on a long throw from Aaron Lacy. But, Matt York was to put Tooting back in front on 68 minutes from a free kick.
Lloyd Blackman looked to have rescued a point for the visitors towards the end, but his effort was ruled offside after he found himself on the end of another long throw from Lacy.
