Campaigners against live animal exports are set to arrive in Kent today after a 10-hour drive from Scotland.

Compassion in World Farming have scrawled "Trucking Hell" to the side of a lorry and aim to drive it 468 miles today in protest against live animal exports.

The export lorry is expected to set off from Edinburgh this morning, arriving in Ramsgate this evening.

In January, a boat used to ferry Scottish calves from Ramsgate to Calais took 14 hours to cross The Channel.

Speaking on behalf of the Trucking Hell campaign, actor Peter Egan said: "It is astonishing and frankly unacceptable that in 2019, calves and sheep are still being exported from the UK in these abysmal conditions.

"Too many animals have been forced to suffer these intolerable journeys for too long and urgent action must be taken now to stop this cruel, outdated trade once and for all."

The Port of Ramsgate often sees protest from animal rights campaigners.
