The UK’s largest Wetherspoon pub is about to get even bigger as bosses announce a £750k expansion.
The Royal Victoria Pavilion in Ramsgate already has a capacity for 1,400 people, but now the mezzanine level is being extended.
It will soon encompass the whole top area of the pub.
The building is currently closed for the refurbishment project and set to reopen on December 7.
A covered customer area is being added to the rear of the pub extending to the beachfront.
Staff will be deployed to other Wetherspoon pubs in the region, during the closure for the work, and will return for the reopening.
Bosses say the ambitious project will set them back three-quarters of a million pounds.
Manager Chris Whitbourn said: “Wetherspoon is spending £750,000 on the pub, providing further substantial investment into the area.
“Myself and my team will look forward to welcoming customers back into Royal Victoria Pavilion, in December, and we are confident that they will be impressed by the refurbishment.”
JD Wetherspoon opened the Grade-II listed venue in 2017 following a £4.5m revamp.
Designed by architect Stanley Davenport Adshead in 1903, the formerly derelict pavilion had stood empty for nine years before Tim Martin’s firm took over.
It was originally built as a concert and assembly hall but later became a nightclub and then a casino.
