The traditional chippie is a much-loved staple of seaside life and the go-to treat for holiday makers.
So when Stacey Goodwin and her family decided to open their Broadstairs eatery it was in good stead.
But in keeping with the times, and ahead of the zeitgeist, their new chip shop will offer an entirely vegan menu in what is thought to be the first of its kind in Kent.
Mum-of-one Stacey, together with her family, have led a vegan lifestyle for the past 10 years.
“We have always been animal lovers and vegetarian then one day I did some research into the dairy and egg industries and just thought ‘I can’t do this anymore’.”
The family, from Cliffsend will be all hands on deck to get their chippie café, Veg ’n Out, open and ready to serve recipes which have been honed over the years by dad Martin.
The 62-year-old has become adept at perfecting tasty plant-based dishes and will be helped out by Stacey’s mum, Dawn, sister Michelle, and 17-year-old son, Christopher.
Located in bustling Albion Street they also believe they have opened in the perfect spot.
“It’s just fantastic, there are so many different restaurants and cafés along here, it’s really exciting,” said Stacey.
Testing the water before they found a permanent home, Veg’n Out started life in Canterbury as a trailer and over a year proved a great success.
The food served may be of the typical take-away style but will still be far healthier than their rivals with options including, Vish n Chips and Bacun Scheeze Burger, Chick'n nuggets and Beaf Baguettes.
Stacey, 38, added: “It is still going to be a lot better for you as there are no saturated fats in any of the dishes.
“We are really excited and think it will be a great place to come for that Friday night treat.”
Veg ‘n Out opens its doors on Friday.
