Only one raft got that sinking feeling in the 18th annual raft race organised by Margate Carnival Committee.
Eight of the starters survived the course set out between the Nayland Rock and the Droit House in the harbour, the other sinking after only a short distance.
Organiser Cllr Mick Tomlinson said: “The event was a great success and nine rafts ensured there was a good race to be had from it.
“It’s become an established, popular event and there was a good crowd at both ends to cheer on the rafts.
“I’m grateful to the local lifeguards and lifeboat for their support. Without them, the event couldn’t take place.”
The professional section was won by regular old hands Micky Stemp and his team, the If It Floats class by Barnacles pub and the ladies section was won by staff from Tesco in Northdown Road, Cliftonville.
