A judge will this morning hear from the widow of the “quiet” man brutally murdered at his Margate home.
His killer, Aurimas Vilius was convicted yesterday after a jury spent four days deliberating.
Now the former wife of Edvardus Barscevicius will tell Canterbury Crown Court how the death of her 38 year old partner has affected the lives of her and their child.
A statement from Gita Matukynaite, who attended the trial, will be read to Judge Heather Norton before she jails Vilius.
A second man, Klaudijus Klimanskis was convicted of causing Mr Barscevicius grievous bodily harm after booting his victim in the face “like Alan Shearer taking a penalty”.
After the verdicts, the judge heard how Vilius, of Cornwall Gardens, has convictions in Switzerland for robbery, theft and driving dangerously.
Klimanskis, 42, of Athelstan Road has also been convicted of robbery and received a jail term of up to six years.
The court heard how he and his victim had been drinking when they fell out after a friend Jurgita Sukaityte asked Mr Barscevicius to baby sit.
Klimanskis was seen by a neighbour in Ethelbert Terrace, Margate, to run and boot his victim in the head after punching him to the ground.
Vilius claimed that later that night in July last year he was attacked by Mr Barscevicius after returning to his flat from a nightclub – but a jury rejected his account and convicted him of punching and stamping his already injured victim to death.
As Mr Barscevicius lay dying the heartless thug just lit a cigarette and went to sleep without calling for medical help.
Mr Barscevicius' body was discovered under a duvet the following morning.
Vilius was also convicted to assaulting Slawdmir Szamot during an earlier fight.
