Thanet charities will have the wind in their sails thanks to Vattenfall who has agreed to support the KM Big Bike Ride.
The operator of the Thanet Offshore Windfarm is key sponsor for the popular fundraising event. Vattenfall has also put together a Kent-wide team of cyclists to take part on April 27 and support the local community.
Matthew Green, project manager, said: “We are delighted to sponsor the KM Big Bike Ride. As we have operations in Kent and we are due to extend Kentish Flats Offshore Wind Farm next year, we like to support community events where possible.
“The Vattenfall bike squad is looking forward to this year’s ride and we hope everyone has the wind at their back on what will be a very special day.”
The circular route starts on the coast in Whitstable and takes in a swathe of Thanet. Riders can choose between a 27-mile route designed with leisure riders in mind and a 65-mile route for keen cyclists.
More than 40 charities are set to benefit from the KM Big Bike Ride and there’s still time for more charities and riders to sign up and get involved.
Event organiser Nancy Clark, of the KM charity team, said: “The KM Big Bike Ride is a fantastic day out. Even better, riders have the choice to take part just for the fun of it or raise money for their favourite charity through sponsorship.”
