A young woman’s body was found at the bottom of a cliff by a dog walker.
Sophie Jackson, 34, was discovered dead at Newgate Promenade in Cliftonville, Margate, on the afternoon of Sunday, January 19.
An inquest into her death, where Ms Jackson’s profession was given as freelance media personnel and her address as Godwin Road, Cliftonville, opened today.
Beginning the hearing at Oakwood House in Maidstone, coroner Sarah Clarke said: “Ms Jackson was found deceased on the esplanade at the bottom of the cliff face at Newgate Promenade.
“The dog walker who found her called the police and paramedics but she was pronounced deceased.”
The initial cause of death was found to be multiple injuries.
A full inquest will be heard at the same court on June 25.
Multiple police cars, ambulances and fire engines were spotted at the scene near the Queen’s Court flats and The Albion Rooms along the Eastern Esplanade on January 19.
An air ambulance landed near The Oval Bandstand and Lawns in Margate shortly after 4pm.
A police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called following a report of concern for a person near to Eastern Esplanade in Margate at around 3.20pm on Sunday, January 19.
“Officers attended the scene with other emergency services where a woman in her 30s was pronounced deceased. The woman’s next of kin has been informed.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.”
