Woman dies following crash in Margate Road near Westwood Cross shopping centre

A woman has died following a crash near a shopping centre.

Margate Road in Broadstairs was shut for several hours yesterday following the accident at about 1.50pm.

The white Ford Fiesta she had been a passenger in was travelling along the road towards the Westwood Roundabout when it collided with a bronze Toyota Yaris.

The woman, who was in her 80s, was declared dead at the scene.

The driver, a man in his 90s, and the driver of the Toyota Yaris received medical attention for minor injuries.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage, to call the appeal line if they have not yet spoken to the police.

Margate Road closed while police were at the scene but reopened overnight.

Police and fire crews joined paramedics at the scene and the air ambulance was spotted landing nearby.

The fire service confirmed it was called at 1.55pm “to assist other emergency services”, with two fire engines sent to the crash site.

At the time of the incident, eyewitnesses told of a “significant” accident in Margate Road, close to Westwood Cross in Broadstairs.
