A woman was sexually assaulted near a university campus, by a man who pulled her backwards by her hair when she screamed.
The victim, aged in her 20s, was attacked in Westwood Road in Broadstairs, near the Canterbury Christ Church University site, at 6.20pm yesterday.
Her screams attracted the attention of shoppers walking nearby, including one man who dropped his shopping bags and intervened.
The attacker is then said to have fled the scene.
The suspect is described as white, of slim build, around 5'3' feet tall and wearing a dark short coat with a hood, tracksuit bottoms, white trainers and light grey woollen gloves.
Detective Constable Charlotte Underwood said: "The assault took place near a busy road and there would have been a lot of people in the area at the time who might have seen something that can help our enquiries.
"In particular we are keen to trace the good Samaritan who came to the help of the victim who although scared, was not injured during the assault."
