Margate boss Steve Watt says Blues have gone back to doing what they are good at

Margate boss Steve Watt is delighted his team have gone back to basics.
Gate lost three Bostik Premier games in a row over the festive period – shipping 11 goals in the process.
Watt got the response he wanted in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at champions-elect Billericay.
“What we’re good at is that we’re a difficult team to beat,” said Watt.
“The way we defended, not just our box, but how we pressed, our shape when we got behind the ball - we’re a difficult team to beat.
“We’ve gone away from that in recent weeks. We’ve been a bit too open, we’ve scored a lot of goals but got caught out a lot more.
“It was important we went back to what we’re good at doing and what teams have found so frustrating against us.
“The boys gave everything and I’m gutted they didn’t get the three points they deserved.”
Gate led on the stroke of half-time after David Martin’s deflected 20-yard strike but, despite an impressive defensive display, they were pegged back just three minutes from time by Adam Cunnington’s header.
Watt drafted in 20-year-old keeper Sam Sargeant on loan from National League Leyton Orient, and he was handed a start despite Lenny Pidgeley returning to the squad after a lengthy absence.
“He made some very good saves,” added Watt. “It’s brilliant having Sam in. I know Danny Webb at Leyton Orient very well and he was able to help us out so we appreciate that.
“I know he’s played at higher levels, but he’s probably not played against that kind of bombardment before.
“I thought he stood up and was fantastic. He deserved a clean sheet but if he can keep performing like that he’ll be a big asset to us.”
Margate start a run of five home games in 15 days against Needham Market on Tuesday. They host Dulwich this Saturday and Leatherhead next Tuesday (7.45pm).
It’s a run of games that Watt is keen to cash in on.
“We’ve got to take advantage of it,” he said. “It’s going to be difficult especially towards the end of January as we’ve got nine games this month.
“It will take its toll on the squad so we may have to look to rotate and rest players here and there.”
Margate are offering fans who watch three of their next four home games the opportunity to see the fifth match - against Thurrock in a fortnight - free of charge.
