Mike Sandmann felt Margate were hard done by in Saturday's 2-1 Bostik Premier defeat away to Kingstonian.

All the goals came in the second half, with Louis Theophanous hitting a 78th minute winner for the Ks after George Brown’s first goal for the Gate had cancelled out Muhammadu Faal’s opener.

It was the Gate's third away game in the space of a week following a 1-0 win against Leatherhead and a 1- 1 midweek draw with Merstham.

The result left them 11th and joint boss Sandmann said: "We didn't deserve to lose, we were the better side in the first half and probably created the better chances.

"During the second half they came on strongly, they had a good 20-minute spell when they scored and deservedly so.

"We reacted excellently and found a way back into the game and for the next 10 to 15 minutes we looked the more likely winners.

"They then hit us with a bit of a sucker blow but even after that we tried to respond, I think, in the end, the three games in a week took its toll a little bit."

Gate goalscorer Brown has recently extended his loan from Colchester United and Sandmann says the 20-year-old winger is thriving at Hartsdown.

He explained: "George is really enjoying it here and when we asked if he wanted to stay it was a no-brainer.

"He feels like he's learning and developing, he enjoys the training and being with the group.

"I thought he'd actually missed (with the equaliser) but hopefully the goal will do wonders for his confidence."

Sandmann revealed a number of the squad have been playing with niggles including skipper Liam Friend, who had been hampered by a back problem, but the joint boss hopes to make a loan signing ahead of Saturday's home game with Bishop's Stortford.

He explained: "The player in question is someone I've wanted to bring in for a while and if we can get the deal done it will give everyone a lift."
