Ramsgate have signed former Maidstone and Ebbsfleet midfielder Jack Paxman - giving them two players of the same name.
Paxman, 29, has joined the Rams after leaving National League South club Eastbourne Borough and could make his debut at Lancing on Saturday.
It’s a major signing for the Isthmian South East leaders, albeit a commentator’s nightmare, with one Jack Paxman already at Southwood, plus his twin, Alfie.
The new Paxman will fit perfectly into Ramsgate’s passing game, with manager Ben Smith delighted to get the deal done.
“He can play anywhere,” said Smith.
“I’ve seen him play wing-back for Ebbsfleet, I’ve seen him centre-midfield, holding or in the No.10.
“I think he’s going to cause a lot of problems for teams at this level.
“We tried to get him in pre-season but he went to Eastbourne.
“He wasn’t enjoying travelling from Colchester to Eastbourne five days a week and we’ve been able to get a deal done.
“Lee Martin, Mike West, Craig Stone and Tom Hadler have all played with him before, which helps, and he knows we like to play football.
“He’s never scored the goals a player of his quality should get but I think at this level he’ll have too much for a lot of teams.”
Paxman started his career at Southend United before dropping into non-league football.
He spent four years at Maidstone where he won back-to-back promotions from the Isthmian Premier to the National League.
He joined Ebbsfleet after a spell with Billericay, winning the supporters’ player-of-the-year award in 2021.
Paxman left Stonebridge Road last summer with a year remaining on his contract.
