Margate boss Nikki Bull pulled no punches despite seeing his side pick up a point from a draw with Hungerford on Saturday afternoon.
Gate came from behind to draw 1-1 thanks to Elliot Buchanan's stunning second-half free-kick, though they rode their luck for long spells against the well-drilled visitors.
Bull claimed the performance 'was not acceptable' and added: "I felt we were good in the first 15 or 20 minutes of the second half, apart from that we were very poor.
"I was embarrassed to shake their manager's hand at the end and to have come away with a point - we didn't deserve it.
"We didn't deserve a point but we got one so the only thing I can say as a group is that they have proved they can dig a result out of a crisis situation by hook or by crook."
Gate fell behind to a superb Stefan Brown strike which came out of nothing 18 minutes into the National League South contest and Bull claimed: "It has been our problem most of the season - teams seem to score against us with their first attack, be it a wonder-goal or a mistake, but as a team we don't react well to disappointment. "You can visibly see when we go a goal down the shoulders drop, but why? There's so much time left in the game."We've got good players out there but it's time now that the players start stepping up to the plate and showing that."
Bull revealed: "There were a few home truths spoken in the dressing room after. That's eight games in now and a lot of it has not been to the standard I'd be expecting.
"You could say that the line in the sand has been drawn. It won't be tolerated moving forward. If I've got to make changes I'll make them.
"We have to go again on Tuesday against East Thurrock (7.45pm at Hartsdown Park) and it's got to get better."
