Margate's end of season woes continued as they slipped to a 3-0 Ryman League Premier Division home defeat to VCD on Saturday.

Boss Terry Brown rested several players with the focus now firmly on the play-offs, as Gate extended their winless run to five matches, which has seen them concede 14 goals.

They have won only three of their last 15 matches, and are now set to be at home to Dulwich Hamlet in the end-of-season shake-up. Fourth placed Hamlet drew 0-0 with Maidstone on Saturday, confirming the latter as champions.

Hendon will finish as runners-up after a goalless draw at Grays, with the North London club also having a game in hand.

VCD, nailed on relegation certainties a few weeks ago, have responded with five successive wins, this latest success at Hartsdown Park boosting their own chances of staying up.

James Duckworth and Leigh Bremner scored in the space six minutes to give the Crayford visitors a 2-0 lead at half-time and Michael Power added the third five minutes after the break.

Gate's best chance fell to defender Mitchell Nelson, back in the side after being sidelined all season with a serious knee injury sustained in a pre-season friendly against Brown's old side AFC Wimbledon.

Jack Bennett also went close with a free-kick while Duckworth and Karl Dent could have extended Vickers' advantage before the end.
