Ramsgate boss Ben Smith wants his side to take the game to higher-league Cray Wanderers in their FA Cup replay.
Joe Taylor scored twice in the last four minutes as Rams fought back from 2-0 down in Sunday’s Second Qualifying Round tie.
The teams meet again at Southwood tonight with Smith’s Isthmian South East outfit looking to make home advantage count against their Premier Division opponents.
“It was a tough one to be 2-0 down but the lads didn’t stop and I think we deserved something from it if you take the game as a whole,” said Smith.
“I’m pleased to get another crack at it and, yes, it’ll be a tough old game but we’ll do all we can to try and win it.
“We were throwing bodies forward, just thinking how we could try and get back into the game.
“We changed shape slightly, we put Jordan Green and Medy Elito on and they made a good impact.
“We started working the ball a little bit more and as soon as we scored the first goal, the tempo of everyone went through the roof. I think it’s given us a blueprint of what we need to do in the replay.
“We were probably a little bit cautious to start with at their place in terms of the set-up.
“We’ve got the replay and we might change a couple of things and try and have a real go at them.
“There’s nothing to be lost from having a go, is there?
“It should be a good game and a good atmosphere.”
Taylor’s goals took him into double figures for the season.
It’s some return for the forward who rejoined Ramsgate after scoring more than 30 goals for Lewes last season.
“We’ve just got to use him,” said Smith. “I was a bit frustrated we didn’t use him enough. We’ve got to keep using him and supplying him and he does what he does best.
“We’ve not utilised him to the max yet. I think we can do a lot more to bring him into our team.
“Let’s not forget, he was a latecomer in pre-season and it takes time to adapt, no matter how good a player you are.
“You’re also reliant on the players around you seeing what you do as well.”
The winners of tonight’s replay host Somerset club Frome Town in the Third Qualifying Round on September 30.
“There are no gimmes but whoever gets through out of us and Cray will be favourites to win that game and then you’re 90 minutes from the First Round,” said Smith.
“I’m sure a lot of Cray’s players have been to that stage and I’m sure Neil Smith (Cray boss) has in his managerial career.
“I’ll certainly be asking my players to dig that bit deeper because the majority of mine won’t have been to that stage.
“You want to give yourselves that experience because it’s moments like that you remember.
“We’re not playing to win the FA Cup, we’re playing to have that moment and the chance to potentially play in front of TV cameras and that sort of stuff.
“It’s all ifs and buts at the moment. We’ve got a tough game against Cray first and if - if - we are able to overcome them, then we’ll start getting excited.”
