Steve Lovell is loving life at Ramsgate - and he has every right to at the moment.

The Rams are setting the pace in Isthmian South East and have only lost one of their first 10 league fixtures.

They were knocked out of the Velocity Trophy at home to Faversham last Wednesday as a much-changed side were beaten 2-1 despite substitute Jamie Coyle’s consolation effort - but they bounced back on Saturday with a 2-0 league win over basement boys Corinthian.

Midfielder Lee Prescott gave the hosts the lead at Southwood after a goalless first half before striker Ashley Miller converted a late penalty.

Lovell, assisted by son Mark, has now been at the helm for six months.

While he conceded they get annoyed at times having spent most of their careers in either the professional game or at the top-end of non-league football, they are embracing life at Step 4.

“You get frustrated,” said 62-year-old Lovell. “Both of us get frustrated, most managers get frustrated at certain things, but it’s a lovely set-up here.

“I like the club, I like the people involved here and we have good support, and I have got a good squad now.”

The Velocity Trophy tie saw minutes for defenders Jahmal Howlett-Mundle and Leon Redwood, alongside attacking players Jack Richards, Kane Rowland, Sammi Takalobighashi and Destiny Oladipo.

Despite being disappointed to be knocked out, Lovell, who has agreed to allow midfielder Callum Peck to leave the club, said: “It’s good to give them game time.

“A lot of them have come back from injuries but these games give them a chance to have a run-out and make sure that they’re okay.”

A crowd of 612 watched Lovell’s men beat Corinthian and the boss hopes fans flock to Southwood this Saturday as they host Sevenoaks, a team who like to get the ball down.

“The support is brilliant,” he said.

“There will be another good crowd here on Saturday and, hopefully, we can get the three points that we need.”

Sevenoaks, who enjoyed a fine run in the FA Cup as they reached the Fourth Qualifying Round, have struggled to replicate that form in the league. They picked up their first win since the opening day at Sheppey last weekend.

Ramsgate’s Kent Senior Cup tie at home to Isthmian Premier Herne Bay will be played on Tuesday, November 15 (7.30pm).
