A vastly experienced coach who has worked with numerous Premier League stars has been appointed as new Margate manager Mark Stimson’s assistant.
Colin Reid will join the ex-Gillingham boss in the dugout as Gate begin life under Stimson against Carshalton at Hartsdown Park in Isthmian Premier this Saturday.
UEFA A Licence coach Reid’s CV includes roles as Academy manager/coach at West Ham and Tottenham, where he worked with players such as Ledley King, Peter Crouch, Mark Noble, Glen Johnson, James Tomkins, Anton Ferdinand and Kieran Richardson in their younger days.
As well as his time at Spurs and West Ham, Reid has been involved at Charlton, helping develop Liverpool defender Joe Gomez among others, and Millwall.
Reid has also had stints as assistant manager at Bishop’s Stortford and Macclesfield, and has had two spells at Maidstone.
Most recently, he delivered coaching sessions to the Poland national side.
Stimson was delighted to be able to add Reid to his coaching team, telling the club website: “Colin’s CV speaks for itself.
“I worked with him at Stevenage and he’s a great coach, who has incredible knowledge and some great contacts.
“We are both really looking forward to Saturday and getting stuck into the task.”
Attacking midfielder Ben Greenhalgh had served as player-assistant under Prestedge.
The appointment of Reid completes a busy week for Gate.
They named Stimson as Reece Prestedge’s successor at Margate on Wednesday night and have revealed that game-changing stadium redevelopment more than 20 years in the making will finally get under way at Hartsdown Park in February.
