Margate have signed striker Jake Embery from Maidstone.
Embery, 21, had been invited back for pre-season at the Gallagher Stadium following an injury-hit two years with his hometown club.
But Gate made him a firm offer and the former Herne Bay man has joined the Isthmian Premier club.
“Jake ticks a lot of boxes for the type of player I look for," said Margate manager Jay Saunders.
"He is young, hungry and keen to learn and improve his game.
"He has lots of natural talent and with more games under his belt, I think that he can prove to be a real handful at this level.
“Jake has a good goalscoring record and I am confident he will settle in really quickly at the club and I’m looking forward to welcoming him.”
Prolific Embery scored more than 50 goals for Herne Bay, earning a move to Maidstone in 2019.
He scored on his first National League start, in a win over Havant, but United were relegated.
He was the poster boy for Maidstone's 2019/20 campaign back in National South but dislocated his shoulder in a pre-season game at Folkestone and barely featured.
Hopes of getting a clear run at the 20/21 campaign were then ended by an ankle injury.
He was fit by the time United furloughed their playing squad and was willing to tear up his contract and play for free had the National South season continued.
In other player news, Margate have released forward Norman Wabo.
