Margate's hopes of an FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round upset ended against Vanarama National League leaders Forest Green Rovers in front of the BT cameras at Hartsdown Park.
Luke Moore's neat lob had boosted Gate's hopes with a 69th minute equaliser, but they were level for only five minutes as Kurtis Guthrie grabbed the visitors' second with a diving header after Charlie Clough had headed on Darren Carter's deep ball into the box.
Green's James Jennings fired against the bar minutes later, as Ady Pennock's side held on to book their place in Monday's first round draw.
Guthrie's only blip of the afternoon was a booking for a heavy challenge on Margate keeper Nikki Bull as he raced out to clear Danny Green's back pass.
The Vanarama National League leaders, without two of their injured first choice strikers, Jon Parkin and Aaron O'Connor, went in front four minutes before half-time.
The ball was worked in from the left, with Ellliot Frear setting-up Keanu Marsh Brown to score with a low right-foot effort that went in off Bull's left post.
Gate pressed at the start of the second half, and Moore gave their supporters in the 1,300 crowd hope with a fine goal, lobbing in Freddie Ladapo's flick on from Charlie Wassmer's pass.
Rovers goalkeeper Dale Eve might have been a little disappointed to concede it, but Gate didn't test the 20-year-old Bermudan international, on loan from Stoke City enough in the game.
Bull wasn't overworked either, despite being beaten twice.
Boss Terry Brown sent on Ryan Moss and Sam Rents, but Rovers, who controlled the game for long periods, went through in comfortable fashion.
