Substitute Christian Jolley's 86th minute winner grabbed the points for Margate against 10-man Maidenhead at a windswept Hartsdown Park.
Jolley replaced Brett Johnson with 26 minutes left, and curled home the late winner with a looping deflected effort, his long overdue first goal of the season.
Margate led 2-0 at half-time through Ebbsfleet loanees Sean Shields and Matt Johnson only to concede twice in the opening five minutes of the second half. Maidenhead substitute Sam Barrett getting both, before having skipper Alan Massey sent off for two yellow cards soon after.
Shields put Gate in front after 23 minutes.
Lewis Taylor won a free kick on the edge of the box, and Shields, playing what could be his last game on loan from Ebbsfleet fired home low through a ruck of players.
Danny Green then saw a dipping effort tipped over the bar by visiting keeper Carl Pentney, before Shields was again involved for the second, four minutes before half-time.
He produced a strong run down the byline, Kane Wills kept the ball moving, laying on the chance for Matt Johnson to fire home low into the far corner.
Barrett, on at half time for Maidenhead, made an immediate impact with the goals, and almost had a hat-trick but smashed another effort against the crossbar in stoppage-time.
His first, two minutes after the break, was fine overhead kick and then fired home the equaliser three minutes later direct from a left-wing corner.
But Jolley's late effort sealed the win for Gate.
