Faversham manager Ray Turner says nothing short of a win at home to East Grinstead on Saturday will do if they are to keep their slender promotion hopes alive.
Town are four places and 10 points behind fifth-placed Lewes, who occupy the final play-off spot in Ryman League, Division 1 South, with just six games remaining.
The first of them is against the lowly Wasps, who are free from relegation concerns, at the Shepherd Neame Stadium, where Town have not lost since November – a run of 12 games after Saturday’s 4-1 win against Chipstead.
Town do have a game at Lewes on April 1 up their sleeve but Turner said: “Our only chance to have any logical way of doing it is if we were to beat Lewes next week but if we don’t pick up three points against East Grinstead, then it’s irrelevant.
“Even if we win all six games, that would take us to 81 points. That might be a point or two short. We crept in on the final day last year with 83.
“All we can do is to try to take care of ourselves, try to keep the home form going and hope for some strange results elsewhere.”
Under-21s striker Luke Griffiths was handed his first start against Chipstead, with the 17-year-old impressing and laying on the third goal for Luke Harvey.
Turner said: “It’s one of the best parts of being a manager. I have been involved in the youth set-up and to see the fruits of it is satisfying.
“It was a good day for him and he did himself proud, set up a goal with a calm assist. He’s staked his claim for another start on Saturday.”
Another player who was in line for a start was David Blaikie but he needed hospital treatment after a sickening collision with team-mate Matt Bishop in the Ryman Development League game at home to Herne Bay on Thursday night.
Both players were released from hospital on Friday.
