Margate manager Jay Saunders had finally got his man.
Midfielder Freddie Moncur is a player the Gate boss has wanted for a while and he’s now landed the former West Ham youth player.
Following the arrival of the 23-year-old to Hartsdown Park, Saunders said: “Freddie is a player I’ve been aware of and followed his career for a number of years.
“I’ve actually tried to sign Freddie a number of times before so I’m pleased to be able to welcome him to my squad for the new season.
“Freddie has real quality on the ball and from set-pieces, is full of energy and ambitious. I think he will fit in really well with the boys in our squad already and be a real asset in our midfield.”
Moncur - son of former Spurs and West Ham player John Moncur and brother of Luton Town’s George Moncur - was most recently at Isthmian League North side Romford but started his professional career at Leyton Orient where he made nine first team appearances.
Ebbsfleet United are among his previous clubs having joined them in December 2018 but he only made a handful of appearances. Since then he’s been at Concord Rangers and Cheshunt on loan before moving to Romford.
